The Managing Director of NIWA Chief Dr. George Moghalu has lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Navy Hydrographic office on the mapping and charting of River Alape in Ondo state.

The MD expressed this in his goodwill message at the 2023 World Hydrography Day celebration with the theme “Hydrography: Underpinning The Digital Twin of The Ocean” and unveiling of River Alape Navigational charts at the NAF Conference Center, Abuja.

“I am honored to participate in this year’s World Hydrographic Day celebration. I equally want to take out this moment to thank and congratulate you, the Nigerian Navy Hydrographic office (NNHO) and the Nigerian Hydrographic Society (NHS) on this historic occasion of 2023 World Hydrographic Day celebration with the thought-provoking themes Hydrography: Underpinning the Digital Twin of the Ocean.

This year’s theme is thought-provoking and challenging as it is spurring the Inland Waterways to acknowledge your important role and contribution particularly to navigation on our waterways and in general maritime development of Nigeria. We thank you for playing a key role in the business of safety and secured navigation in our waterways. These lofty in-prints can never be over-emphasized.

It is a happy augury that this landmark event has demonstrated your love for the ocean and the blue economy of our dear country, Nigeria, which the Inland Waterways is driving to achieve. We cherish this collaborative bond and pray for the sustainability of this lofty bridge that we have built over the years.

This occasion today is one of great joy and pride. The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) and his great team deserves our special compliments for their relentless contribution towards making our Waterways safe and thereby attractive to both Local and Foreign Investors. I recognize the great sacrifice of the Nigerian Navy and appreciate the mutual collaboration with National Inland Waterways Authority and I wish them well”.
