The Managing Director National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) Mr Bola Oyebamiji FCIB was at the National Assembly complex before the joint committee of Senate and House of Representatives on Inland Waterways to defend the 2025 fiscal year budget.
He highlighted that our ambitious revenue outlook for the year 2025 is based on the expected increase from our sources, including Port Development Levy, and adjusted tariffs in addition to the aggressive revenue drive by the Authority. Furthermore, he said as NIWA, we believe that if sufficient attention is placed on the Inland Waterways, through adequate budgetary allocation, water transportation would developed significantly with a positive impact on citizens and the nation at large.
The Managing Director, appealed to the committee to use their good position to ensure a conducive financial and legal environment for NIWA to be positioned for greater achievement for the benefit of all Nigerians. The chairman Senate committee on Marine Transport Sen. Wasiu Sanni Eshilokun affirmed the budget presented to him. And he praised the MD for a job well done on the 2024 budget achievements. On his part, The chairman, House committee on Inland Waterways, Honourable Ojotu Ojema emphasized the importance of working together to make water transportation safe for all and sundary.
