NIWA MOURNS AS GM CORPORATE AFFAIRS PASSES ON

The National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) on Friday 5th April, 2024 was thrown into mourning as the Acting General Manager (Corporate Affairs) Department, Jibril Darda'u passed away.

Darda'u who slumped at his residence on Friday morning was taken to Teaching Hospital Lokoja where he was pronounced dead.

Darda'u was a season Public Relations Practitioner, an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Amiable colleague and a friend to many.

He died at the age of 54 leaving behind two wives and children.

May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljanna.

NIWA is to partner with the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to curb illegal migration via waterways in Lagos State. Engr. Sarat Braimah, NIWA Lagos Area office manager stated this when the Comptroller of immigration service in charge of Lagos seaport and Marine CIS Joseph Olutayo Dada paid her an official visit at the Lagos NIWA Area office.

BOLA OYEBAMIJI TO CONSOLIDATE ON PROGRESS MADE AT

BOLA OYEBAMIJI TO CONSOLIDATE ON PROGRESS MADE AT LOKOJA RIVER PORT AND TO ENHANCE STAFF WELFARE
The Managing Director of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) has promised to build on the progress already achieved at the Lokoja River Port, Kogi state.
The MD disclosed this when he went on a familiarization tour of NIWA’s facilities in Lokoja.
According to the MD, the importance of Lokoja River Port being in the confluence state is to boost the economic viability of the state and Nigeria at large.
“We are here for facility tour to see for ourselves what is on ground at Jamata Port, Lokoja. It is important we come here to assess the facilities to see at least how we can move the facilities forward”.
In continuation of his familiarization tour, the MD visited the NIWA Lokoja Area office to inspect the Dockyard facilities. He was received by the Area Manager Engr. Titus Adoga who took the MD round the Dockyard facilities.
At the workshop, the Area Manager said they fabricate boat engine parts and accessories for maintenance.
The MD promised to give all necessary support to the workshop to keep it functional.
Addressing staff of NIWA Lokoja Area Office at the Dockyard, the MD stressed the importance of staff to the development of the Authority by meeting their revenue target, and promised to look into their welfare.
In a similar development, the Managing Director also had an interactive meeting with the General staff of the Headquarters in Lokoja and encouraged them to work hard to give their best to the Authority. While he promised to give utmost priority to staff Training and welfare.
One of the highlights of the meeting, the Chairman of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNO/WTSSA) Comrade Suleiman Danjuma commended the Managing Director for the good initiative of this kind of interactive meeting by bringing the staff closer to the management. This will definitely boost the morale of the staff and pledge their loyalty and confidence in the MD’s leadership style.

In continuation of his familiarisation tour, the MD of NIWA Bola Oyebamiji (FCIB) went to NIWA Lokoja Area Office to inspect the Dockyard facilities. The MD was received by the Area Manager Engr. Titus Adoga who took the MD round the facilities.

At the workshop, he promised to address the issues of Staff shortage in order to keep the workshop functional.

Also at the Jetty, he said all the vessels are assets of the government and should be made useful and functional too.
